What happened on George Akume Way
A party member close to the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Tyonor was riding a Honda lady’s motorcycle along George Akume Way towards the International Market when the collision happened.
According to the source, Tyonor had earlier been at Barcony Gardens, a social venue in the Makurdi metropolis, and was reported to have been drinking before he set off on the motorcycle. It has not been independently verified, and no official statement has been made by the state publicity secretary of the party as regards the death and cause of the crash.
However, Hon. Abraham Waroh who sources said took the deceased to the hospital also posted about his death.
The source said Tyonor collided with another motorcycle on the road. Passers-by and others at the scene then took him to a nearby clinic before Abraham Waroh transferred him to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death shortly after he arrived.

Details about the rider of the second motorcycle, including whether that person was injured, could not be confirmed at the time of this report. Daily Talk has also been unable to confirm whether the police or the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have opened an investigation.
Party and supporters react
In a message of condolence, the PDP family in Benue and supporters of the Aondoakaa gubernatorial candidacy expressed sympathy with the family of the deceased. They also prayed for the repose of his soul.
Tyonor’s death is a loss to the party at a sensitive time. The PDP in Benue has been in the news in recent weeks over its preparations for the 2027 governorship race. Daily Talk has followed these developments closely, including the debate over the popularity of the party’s governorship candidate and the wider political contest in the state.
Party members described Tyonor as an active figure within the PDP structure in the state. Information about his political career, family and funeral arrangements has not yet been made public. Daily Talk will update this report when the family or the party releases an official statement.
A familiar danger on Nigerian roads
Motorcycles are a major means of transport in Makurdi and across Benue State. They are cheap, quick and able to move through traffic that stalls larger vehicles. They also carry real risk. Riders have little protection in a collision, and many do not wear helmets.
Road safety is a national concern. The Federal Road Safety Corps regularly urges motorists and riders to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding and never drive or ride under the influence of alcohol. The World Health Organization says road traffic crashes kill more than a million people worldwide every year. It also says motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users, and that drink-driving, speeding and not wearing helmets are leading risk factors.
Safety advocates in Nigeria say the same lessons apply at home. Alcohol slows reaction time and weakens judgement. On a busy road with motorcycles, tricycles and cars sharing the same space, a moment’s lapse can be fatal.
Politics and public life in Benue
Tyonor’s death also highlights the human side of politics in Benue. Political parties are made up of people who give their time, resources and energy to a cause, often with little public recognition. When one of them dies suddenly, the loss is felt by a whole community of relatives, friends, supporters and colleagues.
The timing is notable. Political activity across Nigeria is rising as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) moves ahead with preparations for the 2027 elections. Daily Talk is also tracking the clearance of aspirants nationwide, including INEC’s decision on Pantami and Gwarzo. Benue, one of the most politically competitive states in the North Central region, is expected to be closely contested.
Meanwhile, the state has faced other difficult moments. Daily Talk recently reported on fires at St. Winifred’s Girls’ School in Ihugh that forced students to be relocated.
What happens next
Several questions remain open. The first is the official cause of the crash. Only a police or FRSC investigation can establish what happened and whether the claims about Tyonor’s condition before the accident are accurate. Until then, they remain the account of one anonymous source and should be treated with caution.
The second is the party’s response. The PDP in Benue is expected to issue a formal statement and may take part in funeral arrangements, as is customary when a prominent member dies. The third is the family’s wishes. The relatives of the deceased will decide the burial plans and how much the party and the public are involved.
Members of the public who witnessed the crash and can help investigators are encouraged to contact the police or FRSC in Makurdi.
This is a developing story. Daily Talk will update it as official statements and further details emerge. For more on the 2027 race, visit our Politics section.
