Pan-Atlantic College (PAU) hosted its twenty sixth inaugural lecture, delivered by way of Professor Ekundayo Peter Mesagan, Professor of Power and Environmental Economics within the College of Control and Social Sciences (SMSS), on the Honeywell Staff Auditorium, Lagos Industry College.
On the inaugural lecturer, the PAU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Enase Okonedo, described Professor Mesagan as “an economist, researcher and coverage marketing consultant whose paintings spans calories and environmental economics, business coverage, herbal assets and sustainable financial building.”
Turning in the lecture titled: ‘Making Lemonade from Lemons: The Fossil Power & Sustainability Puzzle’, Mesagan tested the strain between the worldwide push for environmental sustainability and the developmental realities of oil-rich and energy-deficient countries. He framed the dialogue with a central query: “In the previous couple of many years, the worldwide argument for environmental sustainability has been that we must deemphasise the usage of fossil calories whilst scaling up different kinds of calories which might be much less carbon-dioxide emitting. Is that this true or now not? What must occur to oil-rich countries, particularly creating international locations? Will have to they fold up, or must they search selection assets of source of revenue for financing their tasks?”
He argued that the calories transition is way more advanced than just substituting fossil fuels with renewables, as technological and value constraints imply fossil fuels will stay a part of the worldwide calories combine for the foreseeable long run.
